Our retreat venue - Bobbejaanskloof PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE
Nestled on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay along the Garden Route, lies the hidden farm known as Bobbejaanskloof Private Nature Reserve. Embraced by the Tsitsikamma Mountains, nature unfolds in the form of indigenous fynbos, ancient forests, and sweeping plains. This is a sanctuary where the South African wilderness converges harmoniously with the comforts of a sophisticated retreat environment.
A Farmhouse Steeped in South African Charm
-
At the heart of Bobbejaanskloof resides a four-bedroom farmhouse that seamlessly blends into the landscape, as if it has always been a part of this pristine wilderness.
With deep stoep areas that offer a reprieve from the heat in summer, furnished with plush sofas, armchairs, and woven rugs. Every corner connects to nature, from the rustic roof beams to the Nguni hides that cover the polished grey cement floors. During colder months the house is kept warm through continually burning fireplaces.
-
The Nguni Cottage is completely separate from the main house. It has three large bedrooms and two bathrooms plus a kitchen-dining area.
The main farmhouse is the heartspace of the retreat, all meals are cooked in the main kitchen and all lounge and stoep areas are to be enjoyed by all retreat guests, regardless of whether you are staying in the main house or Nguni cottage.
Bobbejaanskloof is more than a retreat; it's a sanctuary where you can connect with nature. Explore botanical gardens bursting with colour, hike through Afromontane forests, and meditate on a contemplation deck hanging over the kloof.
-
What sets Bobbejaanskloof apart is its pristine natural surroundings. Envision sweeping savannahs and the silhouette of the Tsitsikamma Mountains with Formosa Peak on the horizon.
At night, you'll be captivated by a sky alight with stars, with only a single farm light flickering in the distance.
This is an environment untouched by pollutants - no pesticides, no light pollution, just clean air and pure rainwater.
Experience the Bobbejaanskloof Legacy
Bobbejaanskloof is not just a place; it's a legacy of love for the land. The 150-hectare reserve hosts pedigreed Nguni cattle, contributing to grassland management and habitat restoration. Over two decades, the fynbos has been meticulously rehabilitated, and indigenous trees like Yellowwoods, Milkwoods, and Stinkwood proudly adorn the forests. Biodiversity is making a comeback, with bushbuck, porcupines, tortoises, and a multitude of bird species returning to their natural habitat.
Bobbejaanskloof is a testament to the beauty of South Africa's natural world and a place of rejuvenation for the soul. Here, nature's beauty and the legacy of conservation are intertwined, offering you a unique retreat experience. Explore, unwind, and embrace the magic of this enchanting sanctuary.
The decor boldly captures the spirit of the South African lifestyle. It's a blend of relaxation and informality, shedding the constraints of old-world formality. This is a place where you can sit around the massive kitchen table for hours. The leather-covered armchairs beckon by the fireplace, inviting you to unwind with a cup of tea. The bathrooms are designed for modern living, featuring deep tubs for relaxation. Everywhere you look, there's a celebration of nature's textures and patterns. Handmade glass, rough linen slipcovers, brass lamps, and wicker accents define the decor.
